Konbanwa from Japan!
Konbanwa from Japan!
I am happy to say that I arrived safely in Japan a week ago today. It has definitely been a whirlwind, but I am glad to say that jet lag hasn't been too bad, and I was completely adjusted to the new time zone by Monday. We (myself and ten other new teachers) have already been in and out of many classrooms, and have received the majority of our training on the curriculum, GrapeSeed. I haven't taken any pictures yet, but will be getting a phone in the very near future (hopefully within the next week or two).
I will be teaching Premiere School Kindergarten, and will have a class of four year olds! This is definitely going to be a challenge, but I know will be incredibly rewarding as their knowledge and use of the English language improves throughout the school year. I haven't had too much "culture shock", although I am sure that I will miss some things from the states (mostly food). Mexican food is hard to find, and the pizza places they do have (Domino's) are incredibly expensive. It's about 30-40 dollars for a pizza! It's a good thing that I like to cook. =)
These next few weeks will be busy, as I will be team teaching in a K4 classroom very frequently to "practice" on the students before we begin a new school year. I am looking forward to this opportunity and think it will be very beneficial since all my teaching experience is with older children. In the meantime, we will continue to explore the neighborhoods we live in and Downtown Sendai before venturing out into "deeper waters". Pictures to come soon!
